Lamella Clarifier OR Plate Type Clarifier

A Lamella Clarifier, also known as a Plate Type Clarifier or Inclined Plate Settler, is a type of wastewater treatment equipment use to remove suspende solids from wastewater. It is a gravity separation device that utilizes a series of inclined plates or lamellas to enhance the settling process.

Process

The wastewater or water to be treate is introduc into the Lamella Clarifier and flows through the incline plates. As the liquid flows upwards through the incline plates, the suspend solids in the water settle on the surface of the plates by gravity. The settle solids slide down the plates due to the angle and are collect in a sludge hopper at the bottom of the tank.
The clarifie water exits the Lamella Clarifier from the top and can be further treate or discharge as per the require standards. The sludge collect in the sludge hopper is periodically remove for further treatment or disposal.
After the flocculation stage, the water proceeds to the settling stage within the same tank. The velocity of the water flow is reduce, allowing the form flocs to settle to the bottom of the tank by gravity. The settle particles, along with the form sludge, are collect and remove as sludge from the tank.
The clarifie water, known as the supernatant, is collect from the upper part of the tank, typically using a collection mechanism or launder system. It is then further treate through processes such as filtration, disinfection, or other advance treatment methods to achieve the desire water quality.

Design & Features

The Lamella Clarifier consists of a tank with a series of closely spaced incline plates or lamellas. These plates are typically made of plastic or metal and are arrange at an angle between 45 and 60 degrees. The incline plates increase the effective settling area within the tank while maintaining a relatively small footprint.

Significance

Lamella Clarifiers offer several advantages over traditional settling tanks or clarifiers. They provide a higher surface area for settling, resulting in improve sedimentation and separation efficiency. Due to the increase settling area, Lamella Clarifiers can handle higher flow rates within a smaller footprint, making them space-efficient. They also require less energy for operation since they rely on gravity rather than mechanical components.
Improve Settling: The flocs forme during flocculation are larger and heavier than individual particles, which enhances the settling process and improves the efficiency of suspend solids removal.
Simplicity and Cost-effectiveness: Having a single tank for both flocculation and sedimentation simplifies the treatment process and reduces the equipment and infrastructure require, resulting in cost savings.
Flexibility: The mixing intensity and settling characteristics can be adjust base on the specific treatment requirements by controlling the speed and configuration of the mechanical agitators or paddles.
